This lightweight two-person shelter design packs down into a sack the size of a 1-liter bottle!

Creatively crafted for minimalist backpacking, the Outdoor Research NightHaven packs plenty of potential into a stuff sack that's no larger than a one-liter bottle. Keep in mind that much of the weight and space savings is in the absence of poles--you'll need to bring along your adjustable trekking or snowshoeing poles to pitch the NightHaven. Along the inside you'll find a partial floor. Outdoor Research designed the lightweight shelter with a base that folds down to keep insects and most weather out, although you can seal out everything with the NightHaven Footprint (sold separately--but we should have them in stock). Unlike some tarp tents, the NightHaven™ zippered mesh vents for optimal airflow without the extra evening bugs. In fact, the folded base, mesh panels and rugged silnyl material make the NightHaven a far better lightweight shelter for insect-infested regions than most minimalist hiking designs--just don't forget to take along those trekking poles.

Advice from the Crown of Africa experience:
"Conditioning -- The benchmark for checking your physical well-being for this climb is simple: Can you run 5 miles in 45 minutes? If you can do that, you are considered fit enough. If you can't run 5 miles, you better go see David Breashears' IMAX Everest and stay an armchair mountaineer. I didn't run great distances - never more than 20 miles a week. I did workouts on hills to strengthen my up-and-down muscles. I also hiked and, since it was winter in the Northeast, I snowshoed. I did not lift weights since we were 'Gentlemen Climbers' spoiled by a group of porters who were the best atheletes I have ever seen. I do ab crunches so that (I'm embarrassed to say this) my 25-pound day-pack didn't give me any back problems. If you'd like expert advise on how to condition for Mt.
