Osprey Switch 16 Daypack
Price: $98.95 - BUY

Just the right size for in-bounds and backcountry riding. Compression straps eliminate shifting.

Large enough for the essentials but small enough that it stays out of the way while carving turns, the Osprey Switch 16 daypack is a great choice for lift assisted or backcountry riding, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. Unlike a standard knapsack, the Osprey Switch 16 daypack is specifically designed for snow play enthusiasts. Underneath the hatchback lid it offers separate pockets for wet and dry contents so spare clothing and food do not have to share the same space with snow safety gear. Also, insulated hydration tube routing through the shoulder strap assures uninterrupted liquid nourishment in cold conditions. The Osprey Switch 16 backpack has StraightJacket load compression straps to keep the load from shifting, a real benefit when your balance becomes critical on difficult terrain. These straps double as a snowboard carrier. A separate set of loops and straps provide handy carrying ability for skis and an ice axe. Other smart features include hipbelt pockets for easy access to goodies and a SnowShed backpanel that greatly reduces snow accumulation on the pack. For a larger version that includes a mesh helmet pocket, be sure to check out the Osprey Switch 26 daypack.

Advice from the Crown of Africa experience:
"Alpine Forest -- Fleece pants will warm you during those wintry nights, which follow the summer-like days at this zone. A zero-degree sleeping bag - placed on a sleeping pad - will keep you warm for those few hours you get to sleep before making an attempt at the top. Or, if you can't sleep, you can stay warm while you write in your journal."
